David Pleasant is a master percussionist, composer, writer,
and virtuoso improviser who is inspired by the peculiar traditions of Gullah-Geechee (the oldest African derived culture in America). The enriched polyrhythm,
syncopation and language of that legacy fuel his unique rhythmic style.
The concept is drawn from the facile rhythms of hambone, Shout and juba
that both underscore and predate scat, rap and beat-box. Pleasant has brought
his multi-faceted talents to performances and collaborations with a wide
range of artists including: Audra Mc Donald, Charles
Gayle, Cecil Taylor,
Wynton Marsalis, Erykah Badu, Jonathan
Tunic, Melvin Gibbs, Dianne
McIntyre, STEP AFRIKA!, Carl
Hancock-Rux and Ron Brown.
