Modern Mondays: An Evening with Péter Forgács—Hunky Blues: Hungarian Immigrants and the American Experience
The Museum of Modern Art
05/04/2009
7 PM

The internationally acclaimed director and recipient of the Erasmus Award in 2007, Péter Forgács created a documentary to explore the fate of those Hungarian men and women who arrived to the United States in the first half of the 20th century by using found footage from the Library of Congress, the Ellis Island Immigration Museum, and the Hungarian community of New Brunswick, NJ. The film reveals the painful struggles of the beginnings, the difficult moments of arrival, integration and assimilation, which eventually fed into the happiness of the later generations—the fulfillment of the American dream. Film 90 min. Discussion with Forgács 30 min.
This is one of seven events commissioned by the Extremely Hungary Festival.
